About Us |
|
The aim of our organisation is to bring quilters throughout Victoria together, promoting the art of patchwork and quilting, while supporting and encouraging the establishment and activities of quilting groups. Victorian Quilters Inc. aims to foster interest in the history of patchwork and quilting, as well as to encourage high standards of design and workmanship in both traditional and contemporary areas. We sponsor and support patchwork and quilting activities, specifically lecturers, workshops and exhibitions. As at July 2007, Victorian Quilters Inc. had a membership of over 700, comprising both individuals and groups. Victorian Quilters Inc. meets four times a year. These gatherings are hosted by member groups and are a wonderful way for patchworkers and quilters from all over the State to get together and share their love of the craft. Quilts of Love & Wrapped In Love is a project where generous crafters can make and donate quilts to the families of stillborn babies or to children attending hospital. We publish a quarterly magazine, Vic Quilter, which is distributed to all members and sponsors. Like many voluntary organisations, Victorian Quilters Inc. elects a Committee to take care of the day to day business. Elections are held annually and all members are encouraged to take part in the committee process. Each year, the Victorian Quilters Inc. Quilt Showcase is held in association with The Craft and Quilt Fair. This judged exhibition brings together the work of members in a display of colour and talent. Quilt Showcase 2008 will be held from 24 to 27 July. Entry forms, category details and further information are all contained in the Exhibitions Handbook 2008. One Step Further is another exciting exhibition which seeks to further the skills and boundless imagination of quilt and textile artists. This exhibition is open to all quilt artists. The 2008 Exhibition will be held Whitehorse Art Space, Box Hill Town Hall, 1022 Whitehorse Road, Box Hill - 14 November to 12 December 2008. |
