Bushfires January 2020

How You Can Help

Dear Victorian Quilters Inc. Members,

To everyone, and especially our members who have been impacted by the disastrous fires in eastern Australia, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Many of these fires have been burning for a considerable time and some of you have been on “watch and act” a number of times and may have had family members volunteering their time and expertise to fight the fires.  This adds to the burden of taking care of the  family at home, often with the added responsibility of looking after those in the family / community who may require extra assistance.

I am sure many of us who live in areas where there is no current emergency are thinking of how we can assist.  A number of suggestions have been posted on social media, however, at present it is suggested that monetary donations be made to assist those impacted by the fires will help affected communities recover sooner.  As a general rule, donations of goods, food etc. are not required.

The following are some of the organisations seeking donations to assist with providing services and emergency relief to those effected by the fires.

Bendigo Bank / Salvation Army

Bendigo Bank has partnered with The Salvation Army, to establish an appeal with 100% of donated funds going directly to communities in need.

The appeal will be conducted by the bank’s charitable arm, Community Enterprise Foundation™, and funds raised will be used in a range of locally identified charitable areas to provide relief and recovery in the fire affected areas.

Donations can be made at any Bendigo Bank branch or online at Community Enterprise Foundation.

There are other organizations who have specific aims you may prefer to support.

I have been asked if Victorian Quilters Inc. are organizing / coordinating the collection and distribution of quilts to those who have been impacted by this disaster.  At the next Victorian Quilters Inc. committee meeting, to be held in early February 2020, we will discuss who, what, when & how Victorian Quilters Inc. can provide assistance in the aftermath of this disaster.

At this stage Victorian Quilters Inc will support appeals being coordinated by Member Groups and other recognized organizations.

Member Groups are being contacted by their Committee Representative to see if they require any assistance.  Individual members may contact me if they need help or if you are aware of anyone that needs assistance, please contact me.

Please take care and keep safe.

Kind Regards

Marie Lee
