Teacher Accreditation

Teacher Accreditation Program

Victorian Quilters Inc. have run a comprehensive Teacher Accreditation Program for several years and it has been developed by Victorian Quilters Inc. to recognize competent teaching of basic and specialist quilt-making skills.

What is the purpose of Teacher Accreditation?

The primary purpose of professional accreditation is to ensure that Patchwork & Quilting Teachers are professionally qualified and competent.

It is important to understand that Teacher Accreditation is not a training program, but rather a recognition of proven skills.

There is a fee $70 on registering and being accepted into these programs.

The program includes several aspects these include –

  1. Basic Techniques

This program has been developed for people who are already teaching basic patchwork and quilting techniques.  It is also a program for those people who are keen to teach basic patchwork and quilting techniques.

The program is divided into three stages:

  • assessing practical work and technical skill
  • organizational ability in preparing lesson plans
  • a personal interview assessing communication skills.

Victorian Quilters provides a mentor to support and assist interested participants with preparing the lesson plan.

  1. Workshop Techniques

This program is for the many teachers who have well developed workshops teaching their own unique designs in traditional or contemporary patchwork, without ever teaching the basics of patchwork and quilting.

This program requires submission of a CV demonstrating the teachers teaching background, including samples of their work and they must participate in a personal interview with members of the committee.

  1. Special Techniques

This program is for those teachers who specialize in various advanced techniques, whether used in traditional quilt making or innovative art, again as with the Workshop Techniques these teachers have never taught the basics of patchwork and quilting.  This program requires similar requirements as the previous Workshop Techniques.  Teachers are required to submit their CV demonstrating their teaching background, provide samples of their chosen specialist techniques and participate in a personal interview with selected members of the committee.
